Dobison nets a brace to seal the points!

This was a game which Whitley Bay dominated for long periods and perhaps should have won more comfortably.

The first half saw the home team playing at a good tempo but the final pass often went astray; when shots came they were from difficult angles or the edge of the circle. In fact the two best chances in the first half hour fell to Doncaster on the break, one being scrambled away and the other being put wide; but it was a fair reflection of home team’s performance that they scored just before half time; a short corner followed by a powerful shot from Claire Dobison was deflected into the roof of the net by Joss Plummer.

After the break Doncaster came out looking to attack, but after some early pressure was absorbed, Whitley Bay put together a flowing move with 10 passes from back to front which resulted in a desperate stick tackle in the circle and Claire Dobison converted the resulting penalty flick to make it 2-0.

Whitley Bay piled forward with a series of attacks Charlotte Marwood looking particularly dangerous, and it was no surprise when Claire Dobison made it 3-0 from a short corner. It should have been fairly routine from there on with Ali Gordon controlling the midfield, but with 20 minutes to go Doncaster scored from a short corner. Although Whitley Bay pressed, Doncaster were always dangerous on the break as the play became a little ragged; and a couple of nervous moments were created by youthful exuberance, as Whitley Bay tried to run the ball out of defence.

Ultimately the Bay deserved the points and with 4 wins out of 5 lie one point behind Durham University.

The Ladies 1s travel to Loughborough this weekend for a tough game against the students!
