Brooklands Poynton Ladies 1’s 3-2 WBTHC Ladies 1’s
Sure enough that confident mood was carried onto the pitch as Whitley Bay started strongly; and Joss Plummer, restored to the forward line after having to miss last week’s game, scored in the opening minutes (0-1 to WBTHC). Brooklands were stung into action and the next half hour saw end to end attacking hockey from both sides, with Philippa Harmison troubling the home defence on many occasions with her close control; however, despite a series of shots from both teams it remained 1-0 until the 32 second minute when Brooklands scrambled home an equaliser after a short corner had been blocked by Cath Pendlebury. 60 seconds later and Whitley Bay were back in the lead after a quick attack and shot from Sarah Buckton.
The second half continued in the same vein with good hockey played by both sides. Unfortunately the tipping point came when Whitley Bay had two players yellow carded in quick succession in the last quarter, and Brooklands made the most of the advantage to score twice near the end. Even then Whitley Bay tried to come back but time was against them.
A disappointing result but a good performance.
