WBTHC men’s 1s looked to build on their opening draw with a long away trip to newly promoted Bowdon

WBTHC men’s 1s looked to build on their opening draw with a long away trip to newly promoted Bowdon. The opening period of the game started brightly for both teams and WBTHC had 2 early opportunities to take the lead after good work from Alex Lockey on the baseline. On both occasions a forward could not quite latch onto the cross and Bowdon escaped without punishment.

Bowdon began to take control on their home pitch and took the lead with a well worked opener. The home forward pulled the ball back from the baseline for an advancing midfielder to finish. Bowdon looked good for their goal and pushed hard for a 2nd, thankfully for WBTHC the half time whistle blew before any further damage was done.

Just like the week before WBTHC came out with more urgency in the 2nd half and looked like an altogether more organised unit. The away team now had the majority of possession but were struggling to carve out any meaningful chances and time was starting to run out. The last 10 minutes of the game saw the home team pushed back in their own 25 yard line, defending their lead in numbers. To their credit they held firm against huge amounts of pressure to register a valuable 3 points.

WBTHC will be unhappy with their performance in a game which they will want to forget quickly.
