Men's 1s crush league leaders

The men’s 1s made the trip to Cheshire to face top of the table and unbeaten Brooklands Men’s 2s. The game began at a quick pace with both teams pushing high and looking to find the early initiative. Slowly but surely WBTHC started to take control of possession and put pressure on the home team defence. It seemed a matter of time before the away team would take the lead until a mistake in midfield led to a Brooklands break and the opening goal against the run of play. The half ended 1.0.

WBTHC flew out of the blocks in the 2nd half determined to correct the score line and pressured Brooklands in numbers all over the pitch forcing the home defenders to look for the long ball. The building pressure created by this finally told, as WBTHC forced a penalty corner, which was converted by Traynor into the bottom corner. WBTHC sensed that this was their opportunity and piled forward creating numerous chances. Brooklands were desperately trying to work the ball high and out of danger but the relentless presence of the WBTHC press didn’t allow this to happen. James Redpath went close to claiming the lead for the visitors as his shot rifled off the post and wide. Soon after, Alex Lockey secured the lead with a finish from close range, following a deflection off a home defender and moments later Lockey appeared again to give the away team a very well deserved 3.1 lead. WBTHC were now playing with bags of confidence and looked to add more goals to a shell shocked Brooklands. Ste Hill rounded off a fantastic team performance, when he fired the ball over the advancing goalkeeper after a great passing move. Next up Alderley Edge.
