Men's 1s Destroy Formby

The away team started in a very disciplined manner, working together in 2s and 3s to put pressure on the Formby back line, forcing them to play long speculative aerials into the corners to relieve the mounting pressure. Within the first 5 minutes the away team turned their pressure into an opening goal when Chris Traynor danced down the back line before slipping the ball under the Formby goalkeeper to give the away team a deserved lead. Shortly after Whitley Bay & Tyne grabbed a second when a penalty corner was finished again by Traynor to put the away team in command at half time.

The second half started and both teams knew the importance of the next goal. After great play from Calum MacKenzie down the right wing Whitley Bay & Tyne won a penalty corner, which they were happy to convert when Andy Titmus deflected the ball home from close range making the score 0-3. The home team looked physically and mentally tired and Whitley Bay & Tyne continued to ring the changes bringing on fresh legs to continue their pressure on the Formby back line. 2 further goals from Andy Titmus soon followed to complete his hatrick after great patient passing play. Formby managed to stop the onslaught with a break away consolation goal with a good finish from close range to make the score 1-5 after a error in the away team defence. In the closing moments of the game, Jervis Fleming looked to get in on the goal scoring action and open his account for Whitley Bay & Tyne. His run from centre back was rewarded when he lifted the ball from close range over the outstretched Formby keeper to round of a great win.

A superb team performance from Whitley Bay & Tyne, which keeps them in contention at the top.
