The home team started brightly and Whitley Bay looked rusty having not played for 2 weeks. Leeds would make their good start count and took the lead following poor marking at the back post after a fast attack down the left. Whitley Bay worked hard and started to find their passes and soon created 2 good chances. The first was put wide and the second was smashed against the post by Hall after a neat passing move between himself and Titmus.
Whitley Bay changed their formation in the second half, causing Leeds immediate problems and won a penalty corner. Baeder stepped up and unleashed a devastating flick to bring the game level. The away team were now in control and had a large share of possession without creating many clear cut chances. Leeds still looked dangerous on the break and this proved to be the case when they converted a penalty corner late into the game to re take the lead. Whitley Bay continued to dominate and pushed hard for an equaliser. The pressure told when Traynor crashed a ball through to locked who cleverly deflected the ball home from the penalty spot to tie up the game. Whitley Bay looked certain to find the winner at the death, but a slip on the penalty spot by Traynor at the vital time meant the game would finish 2-2.
A great game of hockey from both teams and a 2nd half which Whitley Bay and Tynemouth can take a lot of positives from.
