The home team started brightly and quickly created chances as Whitley Bay and Tyne committed too many men forward leaving themselves vulnerable to the counter attack. Despite this the away side would break the deadlock when Hall broke with pace down the right slotting the ball from a tight angle under the outrushing Alderley keeper. The game continued with neither side dominating play. In the final 5 minutes of the half, Alderley Edge grabbed an equaliser and it looked set for a level game at half time until Whitley Bay and Tyne won a penalty corner with the last play of the half. Titmus calmly deflected the ball home to regain the lead.
The away team changed their style of play in the second half and started to dominate in terms of possession and chances created. Soon the dominance told and Traynor was allowed room to give Whitley Bay and Tyne and well deserved 3.1 lead when he slapped the ball into the bottom right corner. By now the home team looked tired as they tried to hold out wave after wave of attacks. Despite calving out a hand full of golden opportunities Whitley Bay and Tyne could not find more goals to add to their tally but they will be very happy with their second half performance and very satisfied with another solid win.
