Whitley Bay & Tyne Men’s 1s went into the penultimate weekend with a double header, looking to add to their 5 game winning streak.

On Saturday they travelled to Ben Rhydding who are fighting for survival at the bottom of the table. Tyne took an early lead when an excellent passing move was finished first time from a tight angle by Alex Lockey. The lead was soon doubled when Markus Baeder scored from a short corner, converting from the re bound after his initial shot was blocked. In the opening minutes of the second half Tyne made it 3.0 when Andy Titmus robbed the ball from the Ben Rhydding back line and linked well with Chris Traynor who calmly finished form close range. Almost immediately the home side grabbed a goal back against the run of play, despite a foot in the build-up that both umpires somehow didn’t see. Normality was quickly resumed when Hector Hall slid in at the back post to give Tyne a well-deserved 4.1 lead. Cruising at 4.1 Tyne had 10 minutes of mayhem as Ben Rhydding bravely fought back and scored 2 quick fire goals to give them a chance to grab a point which seems impossible moments earlier. Tyne in the end held firm to take their 6th win on the bounce, but in reality the score line should have been a lot more. Final score 4.3 win.

The following day Tyne faced Timperley at home. Tyne quickly took the lead through a Chris Traynor Penalty stroke as the home side completely dominated proceedings pushing the away team back into their own area to defend with every man they could find. Tyne calved out many chances but could not add to their lead and Timperley to both teams surprise equalised from a penalty corner. The home team piled on more pressure and Redpath was found unmarked on the penalty spot to regain the lead for his team. The 2nd half started just as the first had finished, with Tyne having virtually all the possession but missing a huge amount of clear cut chances, with at least 3 appearing to be easier to convert than miss. Finally they did score their 3rd through Alex Lockey. Timperley again managed to score on one of their only ventures into the Tyne half, when a well taken reverse stick shot found its way passed Blair Fotheringham to make the score 3.2. Finally Tyne killed the game off when Hector Hall finished from close range to give Tyne their 7th win in a row in a game which they completely dominated and really should have scored many many more goals. Final score 4.2 win.
