After a comfortable start at York and taking a two goal lead into half time, Whitley Bay they made it a nervy 2nd half as they picked up 3 sin bins in a row. Phil Ithurralde back from a long spell out with a broken finger, got both the 1st half goals. His 1st was a low drag-flick from a penalty corner and his 2nd a deft deflection of a crash ball delivered by man of the match Alex Flynn.
Down to 10 men in the 2nd half Whitley struggled to keep their composure and play their passing game. As York pressed harder gaps started to appear and one of those was exploited as the ball was lifted over the on rushing Thompson in the Whitley goal. However Whitley were able to hold out and travel home with the all the points and prepare for Sunday's replay.
