It was a game of two halves with the 2nd half being a half Whitley Bay will long look to forget.
Whitley Bay dominated the 1st half with a professional display, playing some of the best hockey they have played all season. It only took them 5min to find the back of the net, when Phil Ithurralde dispatched a drag-flick from a well worked penalty corner.
Ithurralde made it a well deserved 2-0 just before the break as he deflected in a cross from Andrew Titmus.
The 2nd half was an all different affair and the game turned on it's head in a flash. 2min after the restart sloppy play in midfield gave the ball away and Alderley countered at pace. Some weak tackles led to a 2 on 1 at the back and Alderley Captain James Warburton took advantage pulling a goal back.
At this point Whitley Bay lost all composure across the pitch and were at 6's and 7's. Alderley continued to take advantage and soon were in the lead. Warburton led his team level when he struck low into the goal from a penalty corner and then picked up his 10min hat-trick as another counter attack gave him an easy tap in at the back post.
If things couldn't get any worse for Whitley Bay they were then a further 2 goals behind as both Sam Buckingham and Warburton again punished Whitley's sloppy play.
Chris Traynor was able to offer a glimmer of hope as he scored from a penalty corner with 20min remaining but Whitley struggled to offer a real threat of getting back into the game as time ran out.
This 3-5 win for Alderley HC cement their position of 2nd in the league and Whitley Bay will have another tough test on their hands as they travel to league leaders Leeds next weekend.
