Men's 1st XI end the season in style

Whitley Bay and Tynemouth men's 1st XI ended the season in style with a comfortable 0-4 win away at Bowdon HC.

Two goals in either half cemented 4th position in the Northern Premier League and another goal for the prolific Chris Traynor saw him finish top goal scorer in the League with 26 goals to his name.

Whitley Bay set out their stall in the first half restricting Bowdon to few chances, playing calm and patient hockey. It didn't take too long until they were ahead, as Steven Hill lifted in a rebound of the keepers pads, from close range. With 10min remaining in the 1st half it was then Traynor's time to get on the score sheet, as he was able to calmly finish a pulled back ball from Phil Ithurralde.

The 2nd half was almost a carbon copy of the 1st as Whitley Bay continued to dominate the play, with goal keeper Jordan Thompson only called into action on the odd occasion and to which he was more than capable.
Whitley Bay put the game out of sight as both James Talbot and Hector Hall picked up a goal a piece. Halls being the goal of the game with a diving deflection at a penalty corner, which came in of the upright and flew back across the goal, nestling in the far side netting.

It was a pleasing end to maybe not an altogether pleasing season, where inconsistency saw any early title hopes drift away. However there are positives for Whitley Bay to grow and take into next season, when maybe they will be able to have the consistency to really put on a title charge.
