WBTHC 2 continued their march to the NEHL Intermediate League 1 with a solid team performance to get the better of local rivals.

This week WBTHC 2 welcomed North Shields 2 who had made the very short journey to a very wet and chilly Parks this weekend. The day did not start well for WBTHC who had to begin the match with only 10 players due to Sam Mawer getting held up at work. However WBTHC 2 did not let this player disadvantage affect them as they kept the ball well to make a very positive start and putting the North Shields defence under early pressure. This pattern continued throughout the first half with WBTHC moving the ball around well but struggling to find the final pass to create a clear goal scoring opportunity. The back through finally come after 20 minutes for 10 man WBTHC with Alex Flynn opening the scoring for the home team. WBTHC 11th man finally turned up just in time to see the 2nd goal nicely put away by Matt Andrews with a straight strike from a short corner just before the half time whistle.

The home team started the 2nd half where they left off and the 3rd goal come again from a straight strike from a short corner, this time scored by the late arrival, Sam Mawer. WBTHC continued to control the play limiting North Shields to very few opportunities to attack the home team’s goal. Goals 4 and 5 came midway through the half with good finishes from Matt Price and Dan Jones; both coolly slotting the ball into the bottom corner. Alex Flynn got the 6th and final goal to round off a good afternoon for the WBTHC 2.

The home team were glad to have overcome this potential banana skin fixture to move 3 points closer to the winning the league and securing the targeted promotion to the NEHL Premier League.

Man of the Match – Andrew Wilson, who had great movement up front, held the ball up well and constantly put the North Shields defence under pressure.
