WBTHC 2 travelled the short distance to the West-End to take on local title rivals Newcastle Medics.

Playing in the unusual green kit WBTHC started the match strongly and were quickly ahead through a goal from Dan Adams. WBTHC struggled to find their rhythm but a 2nd goal came shortly after with a great solo effort from Matt Saxton. Despite conceding 2 goals Medics continued and press the visitors and they were rewarded with a goal when the WBTHC goalkeeper, Mikey Young, was unable to get out the way of a ball that was struck from outside the D. The 1st half continued to be an evenly matched contest until a nice move through the middle of the pitch saw captain Colin Allen perform a one-two with Alex Flynn before playing a though ball to Matt Saxton (even if that was not exactly as he planned), which Matt calmly slotted passed the goalkeeper moments before the half time whistle to give the visitors a 3-1 led at the break.

Despite a half time team talk that revolved around the need to maintain possession WBTHC were unable to keep hold of the ball as the 2nd half got under-way. Luckily for the visitors Medics suffered from a similar problem as a pass around the back was intercepted by Matt Saxton who had an easy finish to complete his hatrick and give WBTHC a 4-1 lead early in the 2nd half. The majority of the rest of the match was played within WBTHC’s half as the visitors constantly struggled to work the ball out from the back and continued to give possession to the home team. Medics clawed a goal back from a short corner midway through the half with a good straight strike finding the narrowest of gaps between the GK and the post man. This goal spurred on the home side who knew that a win was required to give them any hope of gaining a promotion slot. Newcastle Medics found a 3rd goal, again from a short corner, when the ball came from underneath the GK pads after an initial save and was put into an empty net by the waiting attacker. With the score now at 4-3 the final 10 minutes were tense for the visitors as the home team continued to press hard in search for some reward from the match. Luckily for WBTHC the equalising goal did not come for the home team and they were able to hold on to another crucial 3 points in their quest for promotion.
