League new boys get off to winning start.

The opening day of the 2014/15 season saw the newly promoted WBTHC 2 make the short trip down the A19 to Sunderland Broom on a damp and miserable Saturday morning. With many new faces in the dressing room anticipation was high and the team were keen to get off to a strong start. However, it took the away team a while to get going as the team.

Although WBTHC had the majority of the early possession, it was the home side that created the best chances and won an early penalty flick as a goal-bound shot hit a defenders foot. Stand-in goalkeeper Simon Thyer saved the resulting penalty for the away team, although shortly after the WBTHC defence found themselves a little short following a swift counter-attack and the Sunderland attacker scored to give the home team the lead. This goal provide the impetus the away side needed and WBTHC quickly hit back with 2 goals within minutes of each other, both scored by Kylan Pathmanathan sneaking in on the back post for tap-ins from good balls across the D. Will Stanyard also scored for the visitors at the end of the first half to give WBTHC a 3-1 lead going into the break.

The 2nd half continued as the 1st half ended, with the away side controlling the game. Sunderland managed to break through occasionally, but a tightened WBTHC defence prevent many scoring opportunities. Daniel Jones put the game to bed mid-way through the 2nd half with a 4th goal for the visiting team. WBTHC went on to see out the match and secure a winning start to the new campaign.

Result: Sunderland Broom - 1 v WBTHC – 4
