WBTHC 2 once again started positively and quickly pinned the visiting Durham University 4s deep in their own half. This was a theme that continued for most of the early period of the match and the home side were unlucky not to make the pressure count. Durham Uni began to build their way into the game and started to look dangerous on the counter attack and some sloppy defending gifted the away side a penalty flick when a goal bound shot hit Allen’s foot on the line. The resulting flick was comfortably saved by stand-in goalkeeper Thyer to keep the scores level. WBTHC found their breakthrough midway into the first half with a goal from Pathanaman. Stanyard made it two with a great strike from the top of the D. The home side found themselves 3 up shortly after when Hastings scored the third. Durham were not going to lay down though and they continued to fight back and scored just before half time with a well taken reverse stick shot into the bottom corner to see the sides go in at halftime with a 3-1 score line.
The second half started with WBTHC pressing for their fourth goal to put the game to bed, however Durham Uni continued to fight and looked dangerous on the counter. Rest-bite came for the home side when Gill converted a short corner with a straight strike from the top of the D. Pathanaman finished off a good move for the home side to make it 5-1. WBTHC saw out the rest of the match to finish off a good performance to get back to winning ways.
WBTHC 2 will look to build on this positive result when they make the difficult trip to Marton Furness next weekend.
